An exceptional rate of repairs through our Share and Repair Cafés

We are delighted to have welcomed you to four Share and Repair Cafés this year, with a focus on growing in March, wellbeing in May, art sharing in September and a special plastic-free Christmas event in November!

We have been running Share and Repair Cafés in Crich for two years and have recorded our impact since March 2023. Since then, our expert repairers have looked at 357 items and repaired 295 – that’s an 83% success rate - almost 20% more than the national average (64%)! This includes sharpening 216 garden tools and knives; making 44 general repairs; sewing 33 textile items and fixing 3 bikes.

We have also collected 15 bags of recycling and are now collecting your old unwanted tools to donate to those in need in Africa.

We look forward to making even more repairs at our 2025 Cafés on the following Saturdays: 8 March, 17 May, 13 September &15 November.

Thank you to all who took part in our litter-picking and gardening sessions

Together, we are making our village a cleaner, safer and more beautiful place to live!

Join our next litter pick and gardening event on Saturday 1st February.

Nutrition for women’s health and hormones

April 2024

It was fantastic to see local women come together to explore the importance of nutrition in maintaining a healthy lifestyle and balancing hormones, at our free workshop with Lucy Kay from The Mind & Body Tree.

This workshop was a collaboration between Transition Crich and the Women's Health and Wellbeing Group at Crich Glebe Community Centre.

Crich community engagement event

June 2024

We were excited to take part in the Crich Glebe Community Centre's engagement event, to connect with local residents and discuss all the things happening in our small and mighty village and our plans for the future.

We also had our blue bag with us to collect old batteries, tetra paks and medicine blister packs, which we then took to Hidden Potential Recycling CIC.

Improving green spaces and biodiversity at the Tors Estate

June 2024

Our members and volunteers joined Futures Housing Group to create a garden bed filled with plants and shrubs, to attract bees, insects, butterflies and moths.

Wildflowers were sown in another space and in a third location six apple trees were planted, which is not only friendly for wildlife, but should also provide free fruit for our community in the future.

Experiencing the restored Wingfield Station

June 2024

Transition Crich members enjoyed a private tour of Wingfield Station. It was a fascinating tour and our members feel very lucky to have such an important historic building so close by.

Volunteers have and are doing an amazing job of restoring the buildings and we are looking forward to working with the Station to help develop the surrounding woodland.

Wildflower Walk

June 2024

As part of The Great Big Green Week, we are thrilled to have arranged a 2-hour group walk to explore and find out more about the wildflowers in our beautiful area.

The route started at Crich Market Place, went across the fields to Wakebridge, then up to Crich Stand and back to the Market Place. Together, we spotted many different varieties of flowers, and on the way back we stopped at the Crich Stand Tea Room for refreshments and reflection.

Join us for our Winter Wellness Walk on 5 January. Led by, David Hardie, the walk will be roughly two hours long on footpaths, including hills and stiles. To take part, meet in the marketplace at 10.30am on Sunday. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear.

Restore Nature Now march

June 2024

Some of our members joined many others at the march in London after rising concerns about wildlife in Derbyshire and beyond.

We were inspired by the speeches and came away with a renewed sense of motivation and determination to protect and restore biodiversity!

Art Share Sunflower workshop

September 2024

We had a wonderful time exploring colour and pattern with acrylic paint with local artist, Cheryl Porter, who guided the group through the process of doing a simple monoprint on teabag paper.

It’s incredible how many different designs the group came out with – each completely unique!

Art Share exhibition

September 2024

We held the fourth annual community Art Share exhibition as part of our Share and Repair Café event at Crich Glebe Community Centre.

At the event, we were delighted to offer a dedicated space for members of the community to exhibit their artwork and craft projects, including drawings, paintings and textiles.

We also displayed our prize-winning upcycled art piece that we created for the Fritchley Community Association's Show. It was modelled on this year's Well Dressings, which had the theme of Our World and has all been made using old packaging.

ARTumnal café

October 2024

We are pleased to have run the café at Artstand’s ARTunmnal exhibition, which was great fun and a good fundraiser for us.

Donations were put towards improving our local green spaces, saving energy, reducing waste and promoting community creativity, wellbeing and resilience.

Community consultation

October 2024

The community consultation, led by Creative Agent Clare Limb, told us that you were interested in taking action on issues such as too much plastic or fast fashion. You also said that you thought that you had to have something to repair to come to our Share and Repair Cafe (this is not the case). You told us that you wanted more nature-based activities and were interested in arts and crafts linked to nature or recycling. You also told us that you were interested in learning skills which helped people, planet and place (more on that later).

Following the consultation, Clare presented the findings back to our community at our Christmas Fuddle. Ideas for the next phase include a project on capturing the biodiversity of your back garden through sound recording and photography, as well as an inter-generational project between Crich Juniors and Crich Luncheon Club which came out of a fantastic morning of creativity with both groups working together.

Watch this space to find out about our sustainable fashion show on 9th May!

An inter-generational creative clay experience

December 2024

Crich Glebe Community Centre came alive with the joyful sounds of laughter and conversation as Crich Junior School children joined Crich Luncheon Club for a unique morning centred around making clay tiles together

The gathering was not only a celebration of creativity but also an opportunity for both younger people and older people to learn from each other and share stories about their experiences and passions for making.
